“Shady dealings”

On one level, this motel was what you would expect from a Days Inn. The rooms were clean, the motel quiet. It appears some painting has been done recently, so the rooms looked fresh. Our stay in the room was comfortable.The management was an entirely different story. First, even though I had called the motel directly to make the reservation -- we were coming for a wedding and there was a block of rooms reserved -- we arrived to find we had no room for the first night. The manager tried to tell me that the wedding block was for the next night, which I knew, but did not seem to understand I had made the reservation for two nights since I was involved in the rehearsal. After I noted we would just check in the hotel next door, the manager suddenly decided to give me the room for the person who had just called that she told she could cancel because the reservation was made through an on-line site.It only got worse. The next morning, the manager informed the bride she was canceling several of the wedding guests' reservations because she (the manager) had tried to call them that morning to confirm that would be there and they had not answered the phone. Hotel policy, we were told. Then she claimed they all had credit card problems. One of the people on the list was our daughter, so we gave the manager our credit card then called our daughter. Neither she nor her husband had received any calls that morning, and her husband immediately checked with their credit card company to find there was no issues with their card.I don't know what sort of scam these people are perpetrating, but a confirmed reservation means nothing to them, let alone a 4 p.m. cancel time. If you have to stay with them, I suggest you call back often to assure they are keeping your reservation for you.
