“Cheap and Rude.”

My wife and I make frequent trips to Phoenix to visit family. Our most recent trip was more of a hassle due to NASCAR, spring training and a rodeo all taking place on the same weekend. Of course, all the hotels raised their prices for the weekend so I read the reviews and selected this hotel. For the price the accommodations were not as bad as some I've seen. A bit outdated but livable. The night staff was friendly when checking in. Our problem arose when we went down for "continental breakfast" which was little more than muffins and cereal. There was a sign saying we could not take food out of the dining area but for the price we were paying and the fact that our family is not greedy, we selected a few items and went back to the room. We discovered we needed more silverware for some food we brought with us and sent our 8 yr old daughter and her 13 yr old sister downstairs to get some. There was a staff member guarding the 99-cent-per-box plastic silverware like it was gold. Mind you, we were paying double the normal rate for this hotel. The staff member was rude to them and told them to go away and they were only able to get 3 forks. The staff should not talk to kids unless they are asking the room number and should only talk to the parents about any issues. My wife confronted the staff member and was also treated rudely with comments like "you should have been with them". They are old enough to walk downstairs for silverware. The front desk clerk was also rude to my wife. Needless to say, we checked out of the hotel and had to spend 2 1/2 hours finding other accommodations. I requested a refund for the night we pre-paid for but did not use. I have not received a refund to date, which I am still expecting. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
