“Nice decor, but overpriced for mediocracy”

  , Santa Rosa
Positive: the rooms are very large and the decor is tastefully done, and the staff is friendly. However, the closet is tiny and you can't get to it when the bathroom door is open. We had to leave things lying around in that fancy space when they could have left more closet room. Negative: The refrigerator's freezer section was half filled with ice, while the fridge was dripping water everywhere and not cold. There was a dial to control the temperature but you couldn't see any arrow to tell where the dial was set. I asked the staff to fix or replace the fridge, but they didn't. The second night I had to defrost it myself and figure out the temp setting by patiently listening to the motor. Also disappointing was that there is no jacuzzi, no pool, and only two exercise machines. The second morning I would have used them, but the receptionist said he would have to accompany me to the second floor to let me in. Seriously? You can't just program the keys to open that door? So I didn't even go. And forget it if you think you can get a little massage under the shower - the water pressure is low and the shower-heads old-fashioned. At breakfast they only had styrofoam cups. I asked if I could have a paper cup like the ones in the rooms - styrofoam is a carcinogen. But no... they are upstairs... And be sure to lug a couple of gallons of water with you, because for your $100 a night they are not going to give you drinking water. The tap water smells slightly moldy. Probably my worst complaint was the lighting. There were only three dim lights in the room; it was hard to see let alone read. People probably leave lights on and waste electricity... but couldn't they give you at least one strong light that is on a ten-minute timer? In conclusion, the staff was friendly, the rooms were spacious and quiet, but I did not think that they were worth the price. If we had gone to a cheaper hotel the decor would not have been so elegant but the fridge would have worked and we could have saved $40 or $50 a night.
