LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Jiaonu Tai, or the Crossbow Platform, was erected in the 2nd century AD and used to train 500 bowmen who would defend the town from attack. On the platform stands a fountain, dating from 269 AD, with deep furrows where men used to sharpen their arrows. Next to the platform sits Xiaoyaojin, or Park of the Easy Ford, which contains a monumental tomb that once housed the helmet and armor used by General Zhang Liao of the Wei Empire when he defeated the Wu army in 215 AD. Another important site near our hotel in Hefei, China, is the Provincial Museum, the collection of which includes a magnificent burial robe decorated with jade pieces dating back to the Han period. Last but not least, Baogong Ci, meaning the Temple of Bao, was built in 1882 on the foundations of a 14th century temple to honor Bao Zheng, a native son of Kefei and an important political leader in his time.
