Hailing Island is praised as one of top ten most beautiful islands in China by China National Geography Magazine. The silver beach lies at the south of Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province. With an area of 107.8 square kilometers and a coastline of 123.5 kilometers, it is Guangdongs second largest island. At its center is a land basin and there are two townships, Hailing Town and Zhapo Town. It is divided into Dajiao Bay, Beiluo Bay in southwest and Mawei Island in southwest. Dajiao Bay and Mawei Island in Zhapo Town is wide, flat sands facing the sea on one side and screened by hills on the other three. Gentle waves and breezes in the bay, coupled with fog on either side make it an enchanting spot. Of Guangdongs 14 scenic areas, this is the only area named after that of the sand beach. The south bay has a 9,250 meter long beach, known as the Oriental ten-li silver beach, where clear waters caress soft sand.
