“Average hotel, but overall good experience”

  , Saint Paul
Our stay was good overall. My wife and I were attending a friends wedding, so really just needed a place to sleep. The building is somewhat old, and the carpet was a little outdated, but our room was clean, which was nice! The bathroom was clean, but the shower didn't drain very well. The bed was comfortable, and the carpet seemed to be clean too. We weren't sure what to expect from previous reviews of the hotel. So overall, we were satisfied with our accommodations. The 'public' areas of the hotel were ok. There was a faint 'old' smell or something that wasn't bad, wasn't great, but acceptable for us. And the stairwell we used had broken cracker pieces or something. The lobby is small but nice and clean. The breakfast was basic. Some small bagels, toast, muffins, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, juice and coffee. But it was great that they had it. Some of the crowd at this hotel was a little 'sketchy.' One of the nights, there were a couple cop cars outside the building, but I couldn't tell exactly what was up. But we had no problems with anyone, and there were other families there as well. Overall, more than fine for the 'Name Your Own' price we paid through Priceline. The only bad thing to mention is about my brother's experience who stayed at this hotel one night as well. After he and his friend checked in and were changing out of their groomsmen tuxes, they heard the door unlock from the electronic key swipe and some guys opened the door who were apparently thinking this was their room. The 'intruders' left right away and there were no problems. But still, not necessarily a comforting feeling. I'm not sure if they told the front desk about their experience. We assumed the front desk accidentally gave room keys for the same room to 2 different parties.Again, this was their experience, and the experience for my wife and I was problem free!I would recommend this hotel to anyone for this price, if they are just looking for a place to sleep and relax while traveling.
