“One Thing After Another”

Upon checkin gin I was given the keys to the two rooms I had reserved. One key didn't work, requiring a return trip to have it fixed - this key proved ineffective as well. It was only after these two failed attempts that I was informed the door was broken and I would have to get 'creative' with the door handle to get into the room. There were zero security measures in place. The only areas that required a key to enter were the individual rooms and the pool area. All the doors to the outside were accessible without a key; most were actually propped or otherwise stuck open. The pool area, on the other hand, required a key to get into - although why anyone would want to use the pool is beyond me; the hot tub was filthy, the air freezing and the pool itself murky and dark. Breakfast consisted of a minimal assortment of stale doughnuts and a single waffle, warm orange and apple juice and approximately half a bowl of Raisin Bran. The breakfast area and front desk were unstaffed so there was no way for me to inquire as to additional options for breakfast. We arrived at 8:45am for breakfast in order to avoid the potential of items having 'run out'. Upon checkout I informed the clerk I had reserved the rooms at a different rate, $59.99, than what I had been charged, $79.99. He was polite and told me that the rate on my bill is what 'it' showed as being my charge at reservation. Although I don't doubt that the documentation available to him reflected this increased rate, I do dispute the accuracy of it as I would not have paid $80 per room for two rooms for an impromtu birthday party for my son and a few friends. The one bright spot? The beds were extraordinarily comfortable, the pillows were soft - not like the bricks most hotels offer - and the sheets didn't smell of bleach or strong detergents. So, a good nights sleep that wasn't worth the price - either the price I reserved at OR the price I was charged, or the ammenities offered.
