“Disappointing....”

  , Morro Bay
We've stayed at many budget hotels in the past, but this property was below par in comparison. We arrived at the property and were told that the card key entry system to each room was not functioning, and was being repaired. We were let into our room by the gentleman at the desk. About 45 minutes later he distributed card keys to occupants of rooms, including ours, but only provided one card key. However, over a 2 day period, we had to return three times to the office to have our card key reprogrammed because continually failed to open our door. The gentleman at the desk never offered an apology or explanation. (He's a little difficult to understand due to a heavy accent.) There were several issues with our room. First, one of the lamp bulbs was broken. Fortunately, sufficient lighting was provided by other lamps in the room. The remote didn't work, so we changed channels manually. We made use of the small refrigerator, but found that the temperature control was inoperable (it would fall off) and it was impossible to regulate the temperature. The following morning I tried to use the wall-mounted hair dryer, and after pushing buttons, I realized that it didn't work. I later went to the office to let them know it was not functioning and to request a portable hair dryer. Again, the same gentleman at the desk asked if I had made sure to push all the buttons. After saying I had, but to no avail, he went into a back room and came out with a hair dryer. Once again, he seemed disinterested and did not offer an apology or say that he would have someone repair it.The stairwells have an unclean and worn appearance. In the interior of the room, there were finger marks on the door leading to the bathroom and the linen was somewhat worn. The breakfast is minimal, containing make-yourself waffles, two cereals, choice of two juices, coffee, hot cocoa mix, white bread, mini bagels and mini rolls. There are no tables to sit at; there are only four chairs & a coffee table in the adjoining office area.On the plus side, it was quiet inside the room.We will be making on-going trips to Hayward, but will definitely find other accommodations, even if it means paying more for a room.
