“Cheap Bare Bones”

  , Rochester
Let's be clear. I needed to go to Mayo, I did not want to spend a nickel more than needed. This hotel was squeaky clean, very plain, very old and my room was almost funny. This is obviously a very old hotel, across from Mayo. Clearly built before bathrooms were part of hotel rooms (there was a six inch step up to go to the bathroom which was about five foot wide. The most interesting aspect was that the heat was simply not able to stand up to the situation. It is located in Minnesota, which in the Winter gets below zero cold. This is not a new phenomena. They had a radiator which never was too hot to touch, warmer than my skin, yes; too warm to leave my hand on, yes. But not more than about 120 or so. It was located below the windows, which did not shut completely. So air whistled into the room. I did mention it was below zero outside. I travel with a artic rated sleeping bag in my car so I used it and I was fine. I had to leave my parka on in the room if I were sitting around. I saw no sign of AC so depending on the summer in Minnesota you might want to figure that one out as well. Bottom line, it was the cheapest thing I could find. It was spotlessly clean. If I were alone I would go back. Bring a sleeping bag and go for it.
