“Family spring break”

  , Tucker
This hotel is right on the beach. However the sand dunes block the view of the water. You can see the water a little bit from the second floor and the first floor opens right up to a grassy field. Nicely landscaped. One of the pools was heated which felt great in the chilly breeze. Hot tub, very small kiddie pool. You could rent a basket of sand toys, beach chairs and umbrellas and bikes. Jekyll is very small so you can go anywhere on bikes. The hotel has no restaurant and the free daily breakfast was entirely bread. Waffle maker, muffins, bagels, toast, danish. No eggs or breakfast meat - nothing hot except the do-it-yourself waffles. The problem is that the only place to buy food, to supplement the carb only breakfast and for a family to eat lunch cheaply and not need to clean up to go out for lunch, is a gas station. We were able to buy a loaf of white bread only, one choice of packaged lunch meat and chips. At least the rooms have a medium fridge and micro sized microwave. Our toilet had not been cleaned when we checked in so I clorox wiped every surface. The carpet was very dark and I wouldn't let the kids walk on it barefoot. The 2 beds, the sink and everything but the toilet and shower are in the room with you.If you want the basic beach experience 5 hours from Atlanta. This is a beautiful island and a great hotel for beach, pool and site seeing. That's it. It's a step above camping. Also, the restaurant situation on Jekyll is not good so bring groceries - no grocery store or drug store on entire island, because you don't want to pay another $6 to go through the toll to get supplies once you're on the island. The pizza place is good and you'll probably eat at the only fast food place - the Dairy Queen at least once. Otherwise, plan to dress up for one of about 7 or 8 fancy restaurants with fancy prices and poor service. The hike that starts next to Flash Foods is fantastic! We saw a deer, tree frogs and a 10 foot aligator. The trail comes out at the Historic section which is nice to walk around in. Dolphin tour was o.k. We'll do miniature golf next time and get pizza again next time. Yes, we'll go back - just don't expect more than a really old, dated, bare bones, sea side motel with white bread sandwiches for lunch. Bring paper plates and plastic silverware for microwave and fridge meals.
