“Started bad but got better”

  , Ballwin
When we first arrived, we opened the door to our room and immediately noticed that it smelled very very musty and the air felt very wet. We figured maybe they had just turned the air on. I also wanted to lock somethingin the safe but there was no key. We didn't really have a lot of time to really think about it as we had to be somewhere quickly, so we dropped off our stuff and left. By the time we came back to the room it was almost 2 am. The smell was still there, pretty bad, and we also noticed that our clothes in our suitcases actually felt damp. But it was 2am and we were both tired so we just went to bed. The next morning I woke up very early with a terrible migraine. I figured it must've been because of the really really flat terrible pillows. Then I actually threw up several times. I finally took a walk around the hotel and was able to go back to sleep when I got back but still woke up with a bit of a headache. We left for the day but on our way back, I decided I really didn't think that smell was goin away so I wanted to ask for a different room. When we came back to get out stuff, I walked in the room and my migraine immediately started to return. Our friend, who does inspection and construction, came in to help us and without hesitating told us we should not have stayed in this room. That smell was definitely an indication of mold in the room and he was surprised weren't both ill. Our new room was much better. No smell, and even the pillows on the bed were better. I did go to the front desk, not to complain exactly, but to make sure the staff knew that the problem in that room was a lot bigger than just a normal cleaning. She was very nice and very apologetic but I have two concerns the hotel should know about. First, why did they even have that room available.? You can't tell me that smell JUST appeared that day. There is no way anyone who had entered that room hadn't noticed it. Secondly, although the woman at the desk was very apologetic and I wasn really expecting anything, I can't believe a manager wasn't called to address the situation. For goodness sake, I was in a room that made me physically ill AND I PAID FOR THE ROOM!!!! I don't care as much about the paying but I guess I should have requested to speak to a manger. I thought the situation definately called for one. However, our new room was much better. I just wish I had said something when we first entered the room. Live And learn I guess.
