We've been staying at Days Inn on our shopping get-aways 4 - 6 times a year for several years now. It's convenient, reasonable cost and one of the cleanest hotels we've stayed in. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and now recognize us as return guests. The included breakfast is average and adequate. This trip we walked into our room and were hit with a very strong odor of room deodorant, more like the scent of a urinal deodorant block. We scoured the room for a possible source, finding nothing, and thought they'd possibly sprayed recently, although we'd never experience this on previous stays. We opened the window to air out the room but noticed the odor got stronger when the heat kicked in. We asked the desk attendant if there was some kind of deodorant in the heating system and she said she didn't think so and let us walk into a different room we could move to but it was as bad. We stayed but discussed changing hotels the next day as we were staying 3 nights and also decided if this was going to be the norm we wouldn't be using Days Inn on future stays. Neither of us has allergies but this was really intolerable and I hate to think how it could affect someone who does have allergies. The next morning I again brought it to the attention of the desk staff and she called the maintenance man who knew what the problem was immediately. He removed a scent block wrapped in cellophane from the heat unit, saying it was something they were trying in some rooms. Great improvement, although it could still be detected on entering the room every time during the rest of our stay but wasn't a problem and will hopefully disappear with time! So yes, due to the helpfulness and resolution of the problem by the great staff there, we will return to Days Inn in future but will be requesting a room without any deodorizer if they continue with this folly! Not needed, there never was an issue with bad smells in the rooms.
