“Old, dirty, outdated. Not what I expect from a Days Inn”

  , Austin
Traveling cross-country, I choose the hotel based on my previous experiences with Days Inn... And it was that a mistake. Just rolling up to the hotel, I realized that this was a old rundown motel with a Days Inn name. The Good- Room was quiet. Given that the hotel is across from a train switch yard, this was surprising. I was in the back of the hotel, room 136.- Check-in was quick. Key was ready when I arrived, from desk staff was courteous. The BadOverall, this was the second worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Typically, I'm a Days Inn guy and find there properties to be a good mix of quality and value. Unfortunately, this place was an awful example.- The Smell. The room stunk of industrial cleaner / disinfectant. It was crazy strong.- The Furnishngs. Everything was old, like 1970s old. And did I mention the place stunk?- Dirty - with all the cleaner, you would expect the bathroom to be spotless but there was still hair in the tub.- Bedding - Cover had burn olds, blanket was torn, pillows and mattress were worn out 10 years ago.- TV - channel labels didn't match channels. Clearly they change cable operators and no one cared enou to update it.- Lights - bathroom light are those industrial florcent types that you typically find on the ceiling of commercial building or garages.... But these were on the wall, with covers falling off.- Price - At $60+/night you expect much more. This as more in the $25 range.SummaryAvoid this place. I actually closed my bag and put it on the small fridge to keep bugs out. I didn't see any bugs, but given the condition, I'm sure they are there.Message to Days Inn Corporate - this operator does care anymore. Remove the brand from the hotel. After this experience, I think I'm done with Days Inn. Type to find another reliable brand.
