“Winter storm”

  , Vernon
I was driving home in a snow storm to Connecticut from Pennsylvania when I was unceremoniously thrown off Route 84 due to the fact that they had closed the highway at Fishkill, NY. I have a 4x4, but did not want to navigate the backroads of New York in a snow storm, so I decided to find a hotel for the night. My needs are meager, all I needed was a bed and a bathroom. I've stayed at Days Inn before in other locations and always found them to be a reasonable value. This location was right off the highway, though I didn't see it at first. I first stopped in at a competitor in the same lot as Days Inn and was quoted a price $30 higher than Days Inn. Walking out of the competitor, I saw the Days Inn.The staff at the desk was very nice and quickly got me a room. I asked for non-smoking room. Sometimes when you ask for a non-smoking room, some of the rooms around your room are smoking rooms and you end up breathing second hand smoke anyway. This thankfully did not happen to my room. The room itself was clean and comfortable, though one can tell the hotel was "aged". There where some obvious signs of repair in the bathroom and the furniture had a few scratches. No matter to me, however, as I said my needs are meager. I'm not the kind of person that needs a complementary pedicure during my stay.I used the microwave to heat up an extra hamburger I had and spent the rest of the evening trying to figure out the local cable network. The next morning, I availed myself of the complementary breakfast. I made myself a waffle and had some juice. I think it's great that even though Days Inn is a low end hotel, they still have waffle machines.Upon leaving, I asked the desk clerk if Route 84 had been opened. He said yes. That's the kind of information the desk clerk should know and I was glad to hear it.Over all. a good value for the money if you are looking for a low end hotel.
