“Days Inn Getaway”

  , Syracuse
I used to have an apartment on the upper west side and love the neighborhood (90s-100 Street). When we had to give the apartment up, we looked for a hotel nearby and checked out the Days Inn. Prices fluctuate, like many hotels, but one can usually get a good deal at this 94th Street hotel, conveniently located at Broadway just a block from the 96th Street subway station and only two stops from Times Square via the 2 or 3 express trains. The hotel is older, but some of the rooms have been renovated. The staff is friendly and they treat regular customers very well--giving us upgrades on several occasions. I've been coming here from a couple of years and enjoy the proximity to Central Park, the convenience of public transportation that will take you anywhere in the City and the residential feel of the neighborhood. There is a Whole Foods nearby, drugstores, shops, deli across the street, bakery, and excellent restaurants on Amsterdam and elsewhere just a block or so away. Tow of my favorites are Asia Kan and Kouzan on Amsterdam between 93rd and 94th Streets. I recommend that you get a room in one of the higher floors if you are not used to the street noise in Manhattan, which can take some getting used to. The elevators are small and a bit slow. We stayed for a few days just before the July 4th weekend and three out of the four elevators were out of commission, making the trip up and down from the 4th floor a chore. But, this was the first time this has ever happened. All-in-all, I recommend this hotel for visitors who want to get away from the congestion of the tourist area, but close enough by express subway ride to not miss a thing.
