“Very unhappy”

  , Oakland
I was extremely let down by the Days Inn Syracuse. We arrived in the dark and thought we had arrived at an abandoned warehouse - pitch black back parking lot presented itself first upon turning off the highway - with sea/land shipping containers and an empty(?) tractor trailer parked in the corner. The DAYS INN light on top of the building was off/barely flickering. Looked like Bates Hotel. We pulled around front to find a courteous person behind the counter but from the moment we walked in, to entering our room, the whole place smelled like an ashtray. Room was dated and dreary, even though it had been "recently updated". TV frizzled/shorted after a few minutes of watching and my daughter actually told me she was afraid to stay there. We slept, and left at 7 am - getting onto the elevator, the housekeeper on board saw us and snuffed out her lit cigarette with her fingers - right under the NO SMOKING sign. No wonder the whole place reeked. Like a Saturday Night skit, only worse as it cost $75. If Days Inn are independently owned, I hope that this is a rare example. I have never complained about accommodations before - but couldn't resist now you asked. I will from here on be very leery of staying at another Days Inn without checking it out first. Thank you.
