“On The Edge of Downtown”

  , Philadelphia
If you like a good cup of coffee in the morning, you will hate the coffee that is served in the lobby. It is very weak and lacks both aroma and flavor. The plumbing system is loud, but the water pressure is very good. There is always plenty of hot water. The sound of the air conditioner is even louder. I am glad I am not a fan of cold air and could turn it off. The location is very good, but it is on the edge of downtown with just a short 10-18 minute walk to the city center and the Historic Oakwood district where you will find the Executive Mansion. The hotel is located in an area that houses mostly government, business and executive office buildings making it feel a little isolated for walkers and solo travelers during the late evenings. The overall area itself, however, feels safe and is very busy with car traffic. Although there is a lot of outside traffic, the sounds did not disturb me or disrupt my sleep. A giant tree outside my window and other landscaping blocked the sight of car traffic and probably buffered its sounds from coming into my room. My room was very clean. However, the area on the first floor near the ice and vending machine, and the utility rooms/closets/storage really need to be cleaned and organized. The front lobby looks nice but when you walk up those few steps and turn toward the direction leading to the rooms, this area is a disgrace. It looks dirty and unwelcoming. That said everyone at the front desk is a gem, especially Ashley. Customer service will bring me back to this hotel again.
