“Foul Smelling rooms and attitudes”

We decided to stay here as it's usually my 1st choice when doing destination 1/2 marathons. They're clean, tidy and friendly. When we entered the room we were hit with a wall of stale cigarette smoke. When I'd booked the hotel I specified a Non smoking room due to Allergies. I was assured the whole hotel was non it is.Unfortunately for us there were no other rooms available and we were informed that the carpets had been replaced and the walls painted and repapered. That may be true, but what they might want to do is replace the bloody furniture. The chair in our room had cigarette burn holes on it. That alone would be enough to cause such a stench.We ended up heading out to target and picking up scented candles and febreeze in order to help combat the stench of the room.If this had been the only issue I would have simply been unhappy, but combined with the rotten attitude of the staff on duty with what happened next has made me never want to stay at a Days Inn ever again.Later that evening as we got ready for our 1/2 marathon the next morning our smoke detector started random beeping (you know the kind...from low/dead batteries). We went to the desk and we were informed someone would be up right away to change the battery. Eventually someone did come up once we went down again to find out why no one was coming. The battery was replaced.Within 5 minutes the same thing started happening again. Intermittent high pitched beeping. We went back down to complain. We were told that there wasn't really anything else they could do because they don't have a maintenance man on site...someone would have to come down from another hotel. We asked when that would be and the answer was a shoulder shrug.At this point we're not happy and my husband got upset. He said to the person behind the desk "You know, we're starting to get pretty upset, the room stinks, and now you can't tell us when the beeping smoke detector will be fixed and we have to sleep tonight because we have a 1/2 marathon tomorrow"shoulder shrug"It really seems like you don't care""Sir, it's our job to smile and placate the guests so ~gives forced fake smile~ "Well if it bothers you, you could always just remove the battery"At this point you realize that the hotel you're paying money to stay at has just informed you that instead of fixing the problem they told me to have a non functioning smoke detector in my room. Never again will I stay @DI.
