“Mixed feelings”

The Days Inn Carrollton is a fair motel. It's well presented and the staff are friendly. On the other hand, the facility layout is labyrinthine, and the architect should be shot on charges of incompetence and offenses against logic and good taste. If carrying a full load of luggage, it's quite impossible to get to the guest rooms from the parking lot entrance without considerable hassle from plenty of fire doors and corridors. While generally clean, and with obvious efforts by the staff to keep it so, the second floor hallway smells rather unpleasant, and the decor in both room and common areas is outdated. The bathrooms are enormous, and would be large enough to make some consolation to any handicapped person trying to get into a guest room. Likewise, the rooms are large, but the quality of the amenities provided (soap, mattress, sheets, etc) are on the cheap side, especially considering the price charged for a room. On both of my stays, it seemed like there were light fixtures in the rooms where the bulbs were either burnt out, or the fixtures did not work, or one could not figure how to turn them on. For someone like myself, who works nights, it was a giant hassle. The contiental breakfast was OK, but the layout, presentation and convenience are more on the 'bake sale' side of things than they should be. Serving dishes would be better than the saran wrap they use. It's not that I would not recommend the motel, nor that it was a BAD stay, but there is work that needs to be done before it becomes worth the price.
