“A night in a cold dark room”

When we booked the room we were quoted a price of $114 including tax but the next morning we were charged $114 plus tax. 30 minutes after we checked in the hotel lost all power as a result we were without heat and lights for 5 hours. I requested that we receive some type of compensation for the inconviences we endured and was told I would get $20 off the cost of the room. We had no choice but stay as the very reason we were there was due to a power outage at our home. The $20 discount was not offered to me by management I had to request it and was told by the manager that "We didn't have to stay there we could have left". I am aware that the hotel management was not to blame for the power outage but I also feel the staff was neither professional or understanding in how the matter was handled. I am not exactly sure where we were expected to go at that late hour as there were no other rooms available in the city and management was well aware of the situation. We left there feeling as though we had been held hostage in a cold dark room, the same environment we had left at our home. The management behaved more like they were doing us a favour rather than treat us as a valued guest in their hotel.
