“Stay at the Dutch Colony Inn NOT the Super 8 when visiting Orange City, IA”

My problems with this hotel began before I even stepped foot inside the hotel. This hotel was right across the street from the venue for my brother's wedding reception. First I was over-charged (I rented a room from the wedding block) then when I called back to have this fixed, the woman answering phones called me a liar (even though I was looking at my bank statement online and could clearly see the charge) and said "I don't want to talk to you anymore". She also did not have a working knowledge of the English language. I had to call back, get the manager (who was the woman's husband I found out later) to get this resolved, only to have him tell me he can't give me "special treatment". I told him I didn't want special treatment, I wanted the same treatment as everyone else, I wanted basic customer service and to have issues fixed when I present them. By this time, my mother and the bride had also called corporate to complain so when I mentioned this to him, THEN he was willing to help me. When I arrived at the hotel, the wife/front desk clerk again displayed her need for an ESL class because she couldn't find my first name in the system (and my first name is pretty basic). Also, when the husband of the matron of honor checked in after me, she did not know how to calculate the correct change when he gave her $80 in cash. I had booked a single room, 1 king sized bed and got a room with 2 queen sized beds. My room smelled like stale cigarettes and bad coffee. The decor was a complete throwback to the early Eighties with itchy gold comforters, ugly worn out blue carpeting, pastel pictures and a big tube TV set. One of the outlets was broken so my cell phone was almost dead when I got up the next morning. But the shower was nice - I want to find a showerhead like that for my house. Also there was a microwave and mini-fridge as well which was a nice feature. However, I would sleep in my car before staying in that hotel again. I cannot stress enough that people need to stay at the Dutch Colony Inn instead of the Super 8 when visiting Orange City, IA.
