“HANDICAPPED / WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE ROOM”

  , Poulsbo
Days Inn Bellevue Seattle was recommended to us because of its location. We are unfamiliar with the area except for the LDS Temple which we were there to visit.Prior to making reservations for our stay, I called the Inn to inquire about wheelchair accessible accomodations as my wife is wheelchair bound and needs assistance to transfer to and from the chair. I was told by one of the managers that ground floor, handicapped accessible rooms were available. Upon our arrival and entering into the room, we discovered that there was barely enough room to move the wheelchair through the room to the bathroom because there was so little space between the end of the bed and the TV cabinet. We asked the manager to remove the chair which was at the desk to facilitate moving in and out of the room. The bed was the smallest "Queen Sized" bed that I've ever seen and was situated with one side against the bathroom wall. This required that, after my wife was in the bed, I had to climb into my side (which was against the wall) from the end of the bed. I slept for part of the night in the suffed chair next to the window so that I could more readily help my wife to the bathroom. Although the bathroom door was easily wide enough for the wheelchair, the threshold to the bathroom was high and sharp edged which made it difficult to negotiate with the small front wheels of the wheelchair. Also, the wide bathroom door took up most ot the sink-clothes hanging area. This made it problematic when we operated the door with the wheelchair in the area. The bathroom door should have been a pocket door with a low rise-shallow threshold or no threshold.
