“Locked Out of Room”

We stayed the nights of May 3-5 with our 3 young children. Everything was going along fine until we returned to our room Saturday evening around 9:45pm. Neither of our room cards worked. Thinking perhaps something had de-magnetized them, I went down to the front desk and got them to "re-key" the cards. So, I went back up the 3rd floor and tried it again. The keys still did not work. So, back down the elevator I went to the Front Desk. They keyed the cards again and went back up with me this time. After several attempts by the clerk, she decided that the battery on our door lock was "dead". Then she proceeded to tell me that no one else in the hotel knew how to fix the dead lock, except for the Night man, who wouldn't be there until 11:00 when his shift began. Nice! All this time my husband, 2 year old, and my other 2 kids (who had just gotten out of the pool and were wet and cold) were standing in the hallway waiting for our door to open. The clerk was very apologetic and said that she would call the Night man to see if he could come in early for his shift. About 45 minutes later, the Night man arrived and eventually got us into our room and the electronic lock replaced. By the time all was said and done, it was 11:30pm. My 2 year old was having a meltdown because she wanted to go to bed and the other 2 kids were very cold and tired. And as for my husband and I, severely annoyed. Especially at the fact that no one else in the hotel was trained to change the electronic locks except for the night man. Shouldn't that be standard training for the Front Desk clerks? I'm sure this happens more often than we hear about. The next morning as I checked out, the Front Desk clerk (a different one) apologized again, but made no attempt to compensate us for the inconvenience. When we got to our vehicle, there was a smashed beer bottle right behind it that needed cleaning up so that we could back out. My husband went in to the hotel and asked the Front Desk if someone could come out and clean it up so that we could leave. (My daughter was scheduled to compete at a dance competition within the hour). The Front Desk told him that there was nobody to do it and if he wanted it done, he would have to clean it up himself. The clerk proceeded to hand him a broom and dust pan and sent him back out. Now you can guess how happy my husband was!! Even though the hotel is new and clean, the customer service DEFINITELY needs to be improved.
