“Earplugs optional”

Check-in/front desk: Gwen was very warm, friendly & welcoming. A very good all-important first impression.Room 322: The Positives -- Very pleasant decor. Comfortable beds. Great lighting choices (desk, wall sconces, standing lamp).Room 322: The Negative -- Heating unit mounted in wall underneath the window. This Negative was not evident until after my wife and I had put our bags in the room and done an initial check to make sure we were satisfied with the room presentation, amenities and initial comfort. Immediately after this check we set the thermostat to 72F and went out to dinner. We returned 2 hours later. Room was somewhat warmer than when we had left it. We soon went to bed. It had been a long, tiring day on the road. Less than 30 minutes later we reluctantly realized that the room was not maintaining an acceptable level of warmth. Thermostat bumped up to 80F. In a sense that fixed the warmth problem, but it also created a noise problem. One that wouldn't go away. The grille surrounding the air vents of the HVAC unit would vibrate loudly (in an until-then quiet room) when the unit was pushing out heat. When the compressor switched off, the vibration stopped. Heat came back on again. So did the noise. Rather than call down to the front desk to report the problem and request a room change (we were very tired from all-day driving), we looked for a temporary "fix" to the noise/vibration problem. Although it was not perfect, we eventually jammed some folded cardboard between the grille and the metal body of the unit. That softened the vibration noise enough for us to tolerate the inconvenience and get some much-needed sleep. Looking at the HVAC unit the following morning, there was noticeable moisture "pooling" on the top of the unit. No doubt there was cold outside air bleeding in to the room through an unsatisfactory seal around the unit's wall mounting. At check-out we explained our dissatisfaction. Apologies were given. Our complaint was noted for a Maintenance request check.As a result of this experience we will now add "Earplugs" to our future packing lists.Apart from this negative comment, we found the hotel to be well-presented, clean & fresh, well decorated and conveniently located for our needs. The two staff members we came into contact with were professional, polite and courteous.
