“The hotel was at a decent location, but the front entrance...”

  , Wausau
The hotel was at a decent location, but the front entrance was difficult to find until you saw a specific sign. The lobby was the same as the "breakfast area" in a room that was maybe 20x30 for absolutely everything. The attendant was friendly and did his job well. After getting our room key we were surprised that we had to go into a cold "breezeway" in order to even get to any of the rooms. Turns out there was no commons area, pool, hot tub, sauna, etc. Not a huge disappointment, but made the experience less luxurious. Getting into our room we overheard a loud couple arguing over something, in our minds, trivial. Opening our door we went inside to a dark room with dim lighting, a distinct smell of cigarettes, half the walls were wood that has probably never been restained or refinished and coming apart, there was a inch diamester hole in the wall next to the bed which made me wonder if there was a hidden camera set up in there, the TV was older than I am and "snowed" on every channel, the bathroom needed remodeling about 20 years ago, water smelled distinctly of chlorine in the shower and the very cheap door had a peice of plywood screwed onto the bottom to "fix" the fact that it was broken. My impression - the staff do their job well, but the owners are too cheap to put quality products into their hotel.
