“Great Location, But Brutally Dirty Rooms”

  , Roosevelt
I spent two nights at this hotel. I would have gone to another hotel if I was not staying with friends. First, the good: This Days Inn is located a few minutes from JMU; the location is ideal. The exterior of the hotel appeared to be recently remodeled, and had a nice façade. The bathroom looked recently remodeled with a new sink, countertop, and toilet, and this was nice. We enjoyed the hot tub during our stay. But: I suspect that because this Days Inn is so close to campus, it gets a fair number of student customers. College students are not known for their cleanliness; this is no excuse for dirty rooms. My non-smoking room had a musky, smoky smell, the room decorations and carpet looked like they had not been updated since the 1970s, and the lampshades looked like they had not been dusted since the same decade. In fact, the room, hallways, and elevator did not appear to have been cleaned at all. I was leery of the carpet and the dresser surfaces. When I further inspected the room, I realized that the underside of one of the lampshades was completely covered in black mold. I brought the lampshade to the front, and informed the staff that the lampshade was a health hazard and needed to be replaced. The staff followed through and replaced the lampshade with a new shade the next day but I was not compensated for this issue, nor did I receive a simple apology. My television did not work at all. The continental breakfast was sub-par: coffee, cereal, waffles (no protein, all carbs). The hotel was, in one word, uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.
