“Inspect room before commiting.”

I made this reservation on the phone with their 800 number. I ask for a non smoking king. Was given a rate, negotiated an aarp discount. Upon, checking in the loby looked nice. Was given a choice on the 2 or 3 floors. I ask for the room nearest the elevator. The room was disgusting. It smelled heavy of smoke and mold. There was a hole in the door , it was stuffed with paper so you couldn't see in. Patches on the walls. Broken and taped window. Drapes that was so old they had stuck to the glass and the backing pulled off and lstuck on the glass. My nose and throat was burning so fast fromt the odor. This was on the 3rd floor, back to loby. Told the Clerk this was not acceptable. She offered to move us to a double or a different king, she said they were under renovations and had been for a long time. She seemed to have a problem with my having booked the room on the phone and basicly said there was nothing she could do about anything. We would be welcome to speak with management in the morning. We took the other king offered. The odor was somewhat better, again there was patches in the walls and doors. The comode ran the entire time we were there. The bathroom sink had horrible stains, the shower curtain had mold on it. The A/C was very loud. We did sleep undisturbed. The continental breakfast was ok. The Manager asked how the stay was upon check out and appeared to be aware of the problems. He offered his appolgies and gave us $10.00 off the bill. I will never stay there again and Days Inn will be very low on the list of hotels that I call for reservations. I would have been ashamed to put a guest in their rooms.
