“Comfortable, convenient--but get rid of ovatn.net captchas for wi-fi!!!”

  , North Bend
Comfortable & quiet, great location either for easy overnight stop-off or as a homebase to explore. Stellar staff: very friendly, smart and helpful. Regular stop for us. Choose a Deluxe room if you want a microwave and fridge; you can use the microwave in the lobby, otherwise. The indoor pool is sparkling. Breakfast is the standard basic cereals plus a waffle maker, but that's not what you're paying for here. The bathroom could use a less flimsy shower curtain, but it does the job. This trip, though (1/30-31/13), we almost vowed never to return, because of a change in the wi-fi log-in. Instead of a password for secure access, they have contracted with a service labeled ovatn.net that requires decipherment of a fiendishly illegible "captcha"--and whether you guess correctly or not, you still have to watch a short video ad--only to be told you still don't have Internet access. And all of this for an unsecured network! The interface is pretty poorly designed as far as usability and clarity of navigation are concerned (and I spend my days helping people figure out weird Internet interfaces at the library). My partner called the Tech Support # listed on the screen to complain, and we also told staff when we checked out. The captchas sent to my laptop became simpler and easier to read after the phone call, but stayed fiendish for my partner. It's eeeeevilllllll!!!!!We may look for a different option next time we're going through Portland/Vancouver, although I'd hate to give up a place we otherwise really appreciate.
