“Groundroll 6, 2013”

I was part of a cycling group (actually a SAG driver and not a cyclist) and it was my first time to Fredricksburg. I chose this hotel because it was right across the street from our headquarters, and our HQ hotel was overbooked. I had heard and read stories that lowered by expectations on any hotel in this area, but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is family run, and they do care what people think of them and their property. 1) The owners are of Indian decent, but contrary to previous reviews, speak as though they are at least second generation United States Citizens with complete command of the English language. I am not sure why this ever came up in a previous review, but wanted to nip it in the bud immediately. 2) I forgot my toothbrush, and needed to have some towels brought to my room, so I called the front desk, and they were at my door within 5 minutes. My room was a two bed room, and the bed I slept on was very comfortable and firm (just as I need it after back surgery). I never ran out of hot water, and took a bath in the morning and in the evening each day. 3) I had heard that our HQ hotel breakfast was horrible, so assumed that all the hotels were the same as they all showed a similar type of breakfast for each one. This is not the case at all. Although not elaborate, what I had was good. In fact, the waffle was better than the Belgian waffle mix I use at home. The milk for cereal was kept in a small refrigerator instead of sitting out in a thermos, so you knew it was fresh and cold, and the bananas looked perfectly ripe (not all spotted up). The biscuits were actually very good, and the gravy (yes... biscuits and gravy) was okay. It is not like mom used to make, but if you have used a mix before you are aware it is not the best, but it will do. That takes care of the majority of my stay. There were a few items that I was disappointed in. 1)I I hate stairs, but didn't get to Fredricksburg before 6pm and was unable to get a room on the ground floor. I did try to only go to the room in the evening when I was done. If you need a ground floor room, I suggest you check in earlier, or request a handicap accessible room. 2) The towels are small. The check in area/breakfast area is small and seemed a bit aged, leaving you with a bit of a cramped feeling (although there was actually plenty of room). 3) the pool appeared to still be closed as it had not been cleaned, and I did not see a hot tub which I heard was utilized elsewhere
