“not welcoming”

The first thing I saw upon entering the hotel were 2 armchairs that had ugly padded chair protectors on them. I thought to myself, there afraid of people sitting in their furniture. Maybe they were stained already and they were trying to hide it, but either way, a turn-off. in my room, which was dingy and old, but clean, the shower curtain was hung way to low, making me afraid I was going to be standing on it in the shower. I ended up "looping" it over the edge of the tub so it wasn't on the floor of the tub. The shower itself, water pressure and heat, were very good. There was a very strong warning in the room against smoking. Being a non-smoker, I appreciated that. However, even I thought the wording -which I can't remember exactly- rather over powerful and nearly rude. I remember thinking, if I was a smoker, I'd be offended. The breakfast was adequate, but again, this big sign demanding that "no food past this door". I understand that they are trying to protect themselves from people who may try to feed themselves all day from the breakfast bar, but there are also situations when it is nice to take your piece of toast to your room, or to your 3 year old, or whatever. I felt I was being called a thief. There are ways of phrasing a sign, both for the non-smoking room, and breakfast room that are just as effective but less jarring. I've stayed here many times over the last 2 years and think there must have been a change in management, because this is the first time I have felt this way.
